An Interview with Kayla Lintz on Transforming Overwhelm into Success.
In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, juggling work, family, and personal responsibilities can often feel like an insurmountable challenge. Many of us have experienced that overwhelming sensation of too much on our plate. Today, we sit down with Kayla Linz, our remarkable Executive Assistant, to explore her journey from feeling the overwhelm to winning her week, and how it transformed not just her work life, but her mindset as well.
Kayla reflects on the pivotal moment when the weight of her responsibilities became too much. “Last summer, it felt like an elephant sitting on my chest. I was managing projects, running kids around, trying to be the best mom, trying to be the best at my job, and little things were falling off my plate. I knew something had to change, or I was going to crack.”
Motivated by the desire to excel in her position and be the best mom, Kayla knew action was necessary. “I was not operating efficiently at all. I was like a ping pong ball, all over the place.”
The turning point was the discovery of the book Winning the Week written by Demir Bentley & Carey Bentley. She reached out to Theresa Connelly (Partner & General Manager of the Chesapeake Think Tank). She was someone known for her productivity and planning expertise – and that someone suggested this transformative read. “That book is what changed everything for me,” she emphasizes.
Kayla emphasizes the significance of the first step – removing resistance. I just didn’t think reading a book or making small changes was going to really change anything. The book turned her perception around, making her realize she wasn’t alone in her struggles. Every page resonated, providing hope and a tangible strategy for creating order amidst chaos.
The power of ritual in planning. “The big one for me is the ritual in planning. Making it something special and something you enjoy.” For her, it’s sitting with coffee on Monday mornings, creating a space where she can calmly evaluate and plan for both work and home life.
After implementing the strategies for about eight months, Kayla highlights the notableshift. “The big success for me is that I just feel less heavy. There’s less going on in my brain because I have a plan of action that I refer to.” Celebrating milestones is crucial, and for Kayla, Friday reflections and family time have become her way of acknowledging achievements.
